October 22, 2010 - Lovely setting on the Med - Review of the Le Méridien Ra Beach Hotel & Spa, El Vendrell published on TripAdvisor
Stayed 5 nights toward end of their "summer" season - beautiful setting right on the sea, beach right in front. Hotel provides chairs, lounges, towels. Paid for upgrade in the renovated main building (used to be a sanitarium) with beautiful views from the terrace. Hotel sits along the boardwalk but feels quite private. However, can walk to many restaurants, shops along the waterfront. Wine, cava bodegas within driving distance - excellent tours. Will happily go back!

I was rather concerned that we had made the wrong choice of hotel for a weeks vacation with our ten year old son, worrying that there would not be enough for him to do. I was wrong to worry as the hotel and location was absolutely superb if like us you don't want British bars, Volley ball competitions in the pool and Karaoke. The hotel is set right on a really lovely beach with not a high rise block for miles. the town of Calafell is to the left of the hotel and although not the most attractive town in Spain, the sea front has character, is safe and is full of reasonably priced tapas restaurants full of locals and Spanish tourists when we were there. We had wonderful tapas in L'ancor, Guiseppes and Pastania ( May have got name wrong). There is also a wonderful Indian restaurant called Spice. I would not normally eat Indian food in spain but this place was unbelievably good. The onion bahjis the best and most fresh I have ever tasted.
Back to the hotel, the room was clean, modern and very quiet. The buffet breakfast was superb and the staff as usual for an SPG establishment very professional and friendly.
The only regret I had was not booking for longer than a week.
By the way, if your looking for nightlife don't book here as no disco for miles, the only music was in the piano bar. Another reason we are coming back.

I would recommend the duplex suites ,however make sure that all windows looking over the beach are cleaned.

the meridien ra hotel and spa is a great place to de-stress and relax. There isn't too much to do in the town of El Vendrell and the resort and the beach in front are probably the highlights. Its a great place to visit over a weekend . The view from the room balconies of the central water pool is amazing, the staff is helpful and speaks English (which, if you don't know Spanish, is very important) and the beach is clean and gorgeous on a sunny day. Did not try any of the spa treatments but the therapeutic pool on the top floor is great and very relaxing. The food is good but very few vegetarian options. Overall, a good weekend stay if you are looking to soothe your senses

My friend and I have just spent a weekend in this hotel and while I agree with a previous review that the hotel is large and can seem quite difficult to negotiate, I have to say that we had the most relaxing time enjoying the many different facilities the hotel had to offer.
Highlights:
We especially enjoyed the Ayurveda therapies in the spa but it is recommended that these are booked prior to your visit at a weekend as they become very busy.
The access to the beach and the loungers provided for hotel guests was great, the buffet breakfast was one of the most extensive we have seen, the cocktails in the piano bar were the best we have ever tasted and a very reasonable price considering the 5* rating of the hotel and the buffet salad bar at the poolside was great value for money. Above all the staff at the reception and porters were really wonderful and made our trip.
Lows:
The outdoor pool is on the roof and therefore didn't have much of an atmosphere and the spa pool and jacuzzi areas seem quite clinical and don't have the warm welcoming feel of the treatment rooms and waiting areas.

we just spend a weekend at this propery and was wow the seafront location and amazing spa worth the visit Is has the best breakfast I've ever seen in a hotel. We tried Ayurvedic treatments and they are something very special. We will be back for sure.
